SECRET STILLS 1992 Single Malt
Jay's Tasting Notes
Good Gxxx Gxxxxxx like this so nails the old fashioned smoky style of Highland malts, quite above and beyond the (also good) Ardmores of the world. Throw in a nice G&M refill sherry cask and you’ve really got something special. Oily smooth at entry, and full of rich barley/smoke development and interplay, it finishes with a satisfyingly smoky plume. This perfectly illustrates the difference between smoke and peat: they often go hand in hand, but not always, as in this case. With a very nice intersection of smoke, malt and sherry with superb balance, for some drinkers this could be the essential example of the malt whisky of Scotland.
